Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. She is the first female vice president , and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she was the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
